Students at Ravenwood High School are honoring the dead by creating a "tapete" for Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. 

In Kate Hickey's Spanish class, students have embraced the vibrant tradition of Dia de los Muertos with enthusiasm and creativity. In preparation for this meaningful celebration, they've embarked on a collective project to create a colorful and intricate rug made from sawdust, flowers and various other materials. The tapete serves as a symbol of respect and remembrance for loved ones who have passed away.

"The sun and the moon represent our classes," said RHS junior Caroline Wills. "The sun is also symbolic of Ms. Hickey and the warmth and brightness we feel when we are with her."

Students at Trinity Elementary are celebrating fall with a fun Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activity.

In fifth-grade teacher Brennan Boucher's class, students were tasked with creating a stand for a small pumpkin using cups, masking tape, index cards, cardstock and popsicle sticks. After building their stand, students also had to calculate the cost of their materials.

"It was cool and fun to see how all the students worked together and did a great job in the short 20-minute time frame," said Boucher. "There were a lot of different approaches used by the students to solve the same problem."
