Schools of the Week: Kenrose Elementary and Renaissance High

Published September 24, 2024

Students in Kenrose Elementary art teacher Virginia Nix's class are celebrating dots.

With the help of different art mediums, students learned about pointillism, which is using dots of different colors to create a whole piece of art. The first project used pencils; the second used markers; and the final project was a painting of a pumpkin.

"We've been creating whatever we wanted in class," said KES student Matthew Benson. "It's been really fun so far. Right now, we're using paint to make a pumpkin."

Renaissance High students are getting creative in their College, Career and Technical Education (CCTE) classes.

At RNHS, students can choose between three Creative Academies for their four-year focus: Film, Digital Arts or Audio Production. The academies provide opportunities to learn up-to-date digital technologies and apply those technologies to creative problem-solving.

"I like learning how to use the cameras because that's something I have always wanted to do," said RNHS student Maia Travis. "I like making up stories and being able to film them. It's just fun."
