Schools of the Week: Arrington Elementary and Kenrose Elementary

Published April 30, 2024

Fifth graders at Arrington Elementary are practicing their sewing skills.

In art teacher Shannon Hammond's class, students are learning about embroidery stitching using toothpicks, yarn and burlap.

"I am using the running stitch and some satin stitches," said ARES student Khloe Chavez. "I’ve never done anything like this before, and I’ve learned so many different types of stitches. My favorite part is doing the stitches to create things."

Students at Kenrose Elementary kicked off one of the school's biggest celebrations of the year on April 29.

The school's annual International Week started with a flag parade, which showcased students representing dozens of countries from around the world.

"This was my first flag parade, and it was great," said KES student Aurora Hill. "I was really excited to see England's flag because that's where my dad is from."
