Schools of the Week: Amanda North Elementary and Page Middle

The second graders at Amanda North Elementary brought the book Commotion in the Ocean to life during the school's first Fine Arts Night.
On Tuesday, October 24, students dressed in ocean-themed outfits and performed a variety of songs, including Larry the Lobster and Oceans of Fun. Before and after the performances, they showcased their ocean-themed artwork for their families.
"I had so much fun dressing up as a shark and rapping with my friend about sharks," said ANES student Reese Jackson. "We all practiced a lot and worked really hard."
Page Middle theater students put a modern twist on a Shakespeare classic during their fall show.
From October 24-26, audiences were treated to a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
"Students have enjoyed getting to work with Shakespearean text in such a fun way," said Page Middle theater director Donovan Hughes. "A lot of them told us at the beginning of the process that they were scared of Shakespeare because they don't understand what he's saying, but at the end of our process, they were more confident in their understanding of his use of language. They also had tons of fun bringing their own wacky choices to this 450-year-old play."
