Schools of the Week: Amanda North Elementary and Page Middle

Lacrosse season is underway in Williamson County Schools. The TSSAA officially sanctioned boys' and girls' lacrosse beginning this school year. 

On March 6, the Centennial and Franklin high school boys lacrosse teams faced off at Howard Gamble Stadium. The Admirals defeated the Cougars 16-2, boosting their record to three wins and zero losses so far this season.

The Page High theater department performed Mamma Mia! February 28 through March 1.

The show, which is set on a small Greek island, follows Sophie as she tries to learn the identity of her father before her upcoming wedding.

"This is my 17th year at Page High and my 34th full-length show to direct for the Page Players," said PHS theater director Michelle Tripp. "Although we have had some fabulous productions over the years, this production of Mamma Mia! will forever hold a special place in my heart. The talent that we currently have is extraordinary, but it's the camaraderie of the 68 cast and crew members who were involved that made this show what it is. Everyone was so positive and supportive of each other, and it was evident that they all wanted this show to be the best."

Fifth graders at Trinity Elementary are practicing life skills in art class.

In art teacher Jennifer Hendren's class, students are improving their sewing abilities and making pillows out of felt.

"I have never sewed before," said TES student Raymond Linzee. "I've learned all the different stitches you can do and how to end the stitches when you run out of string. I have enjoyed sewing because now I can sew things together at home, like my teddy bear."

The Thompson's Station Middle School theater department took audiences under the sea for its production of The Little Mermaid Jr.

Complete with colorful costumes, exciting music and nonstop entertainment, the show told the tale of Ariel and Prince Eric as they found love despite the meddling of the evil sea witch Ursula.

"I am so incredibly proud of these students for all of their hard work and for dedicating their time, energy and talents toward the creation of this show," said TSMS theater director Chelsea Craig. "The beautiful music, joyous choreography, talented singing voices and colorful costumes are sure to leave you happily entertained, but I hope our audiences also walked away from this show feeling inspired to be brave, kind and true to themselves."

On February 26, students dressed up and brought their historical figures to life, sharing facts with classmates and family members who were invited to attend. Visitors heard from Neil Armstrong, Clara Barton, George Washington Carver, Rosa Parks and more.

"This was a fun project because it was so unique and different from our regular class," said second-grader Reese Jackson. "I liked how all the people got to come to the wax museum, and we helped them learn about famous Americans."
