One person's trash is another person's treasure. That's the idea behind the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center's (EIC) inaugural Upcycle Market.

Students in the program were recently challenged to take items from their local thrift store and create something they could sell. The students had 30 minutes to shop and three class periods to craft something new and marketable.

One group used old records to make shelves for a table they repurposed while another group made a wallet out of a hat. The students say they enjoyed the project because it allowed them to be creative while also learning various aspects of business ownership.

"I really liked the project," said IHS Junior Jasmin Rizo. "It made me step out of my comfort zone to work with other people and learn more about the selling process of a business."

On August 29, students displayed their upcycled creations while practicing their pitch skills with members of the public. Those in attendance were then encouraged to vote for their favorite products.
