Schools of the Week: Thompson's Station Elementary and Sunset Middle

Thompson's Station Elementary

Students at Thompson's Station Elementary were visited by Brentwood Fire and Rescue on Thursday, November 10.

With the help of the department's Fire Safety House, two firefighters taught students how to escape a fire and stay safe while doing it.

"We learned how to stay protected from a fire," said TSES student Eleanor Head. "We learned what we need to do if there's smoke and how to get out of our house. It was fun to learn, and I'm going to go home and tell my parents about it."

Sunset Middle

"Sunset is really special because these students genuinely support each other and the teachers. I've never seen middle schoolers this kind and caring about each other. They impress me every day. There's no other place I want to work right now." - SMS teacher Caitlyn Henneberry

Eighth graders in Sunset Middle art teacher Caitlyn Henneberry's class are developing their creative skills during their latest project.

After learning about different mediums and materials, students are creating their own artwork using any method they choose. Henneberry says giving students that freedom is a great way to help them grow in their artistic abilities.

"I think art is great because it allows us to see from other people's perspectives," said Henneberry. "My favorite part about teaching art is getting to open up students' eyes and watch them grow."
