The Schools of the Week spotlight is on Bethesda Elementary and Woodland Middle this week. Take a look at the photo galleries below to see some of the fun going on in each school building, and see quotes from teachers and students about what makes their school great.

Bethesda Elementary

"The small community feel of Bethesda really enhances the community aspect it has to offer. It is full of helping hands from parents, teachers, support staff and administration. It's truly just one big family!" - Alisha Kelley, BES second grade teacher

"I love meeting new friends at school. Everyone's nice." - Guerron Pratt, BES fourth grader

Bethesda Elementary students are getting a real kick out of their latest P.E. lesson.

The students in Donna Nichols' class are practicing their soccer skills, and with the help of fun games, learning how to dribble, pass and turn.

"I've played soccer before, and I like kicking the ball and scoring," said BES fourth grader Addy Hickman. "We get to learn new things, and it's really fun."

Woodland Middle

"I am new to WMS this year. It's my 14th year of teaching, and I absolutely love this school! It has a great community feel, and the students are some of the most respectful, hard-working and kind students I've ever had the pleasure of teaching. The teachers here are truly a family. I think Woodland is the best middle school in the district, and I'm so happy I chose it as my home!" - Michelle McGowan, WMS seventh grade teacher

"What I like most about Woodland Middle is the people. I have a lot of friends, and the teachers make it fun to learn." - Vivian Barnes, WMS student

A class during Woodland Middle's Warrior Time is so popular that it has a waiting list each week.

During Warrior Time, Woodland Middle students may sign up for different classes that interest them. WMS literacy teacher Melinda Leake teaches a culinary class each Friday, where 15 students have the opportunity to learn new cooking skills and try delicious food. Some of the dishes that have been made include taco soup, seven-layer dip and charcuterie boards.

"I've been in this class a lot, and every time we make something new," said WMS student Annabelle Moore. "Ms. Leake gives us the recipes, and it's always good."
