Oak View ESL Students Practice Adjectives with Pumpkins

English as a Second Language (ESL) students at Oak View Elementary are building language skills and enjoying fall festivities at the same time. 

During the last week of October, ESL first graders worked on a fun assignment called, Can you find my pumpkin? Each student painted a pumpkin and then used adjectives to describe it. 

“I really enjoyed this project," said first grader Pavni. "My favorite part is that I get to take it home. My dad is going to love my writing and my pumpkin."

ESL is a program for students who do not use English as their primary language.

"ESL students are identified by more than one language listed on the home language survey during registration and then are screened for ESL services," said ESL Teacher Caroline Sparrow. "If they qualify, students then receive ESL services daily where we work on listening, speaking, reading and writing."
