Grassland Middle Students are Growing a Love of Houseplants

Some Grassland Middle School students are growing an interest in indoor gardening.

Retired teacher Allen Bowen recently visited the school to speak to students about the benefits of houseplants. Bowen, who is often referred to as the "Plant Guy," met with students during their lunch period and shared scientific information about indoor plants and how to care for them.

"We learned what you need to do to keep a plant alive," said GMS student Mary-Drew Torres. "We also learned why it's important to understand where the plant comes from so that you know how much water and sunlight it requires."

In addition to teaching them about houseplants, Bowen also helped the students cultivate their own plants which they got to take home with them that day.
