WCS high school students spent the beginning of their summer learning more about firefighting during the College, Career and Technical Education (CCTE) Department's second annual Firefighter Camp.

With the help of the Franklin Fire Department, students have the opportunity to learn skills that would be beneficial to them in a career as a firefighter.

"This camp is a great opportunity to learn more about the fire service," said Page High student Andrew Lantz. "We've crawled through mazes in crawl spaces with our gear on; we've done primary searches where we're searching for victims; we've climbed the ladders; we've worked with hoses; and yesterday we destroyed cars and used the Jaws of Life. We broke down doors, too, and that was probably my favorite part."

Several students are on track to join one of the CCTE Department's newest programs, Fire Management Services, in the fall.

"It's a lot of fun," said Summit High student Paityn Robertson. "I've always wanted to be a firefighter, so I'm just kind of living out the dream now. I'm really looking forward to getting the experience and hearing from the seasoned guys here at the Franklin Fire Department."
