WCS Students Perform at TMEA Conference
- 2024
- April
Three WCS music groups had the prestigious honor of performing at the Tennessee Music Education Association (TMEA) Annual Music Education Conference on Thursday, April 11.
The Ravenwood High Honors Chamber Orchestra, directed by Gary Wilkes, was the first group to perform.
"Ravenwood's orchestra bears the honor of being the only orchestra in Tennessee selected to perform at this conference," Wilkes said. "This marks the second time in the school's history of being chosen to perform at the TMEA conference."
The Ravenwood High Honors Chamber Choir performed with the Clarksville Children's Chorus. The RHS students are directed by Rose Hellmers.
"These amazing singers are all talented, but they have distinguished themselves in the choral program as leaders through their hard work, their strong desire for excellence and their servant's hearts," Hellmers said. "I am so excited for them to have the opportunity to perform as the only high school choir group selected for this prestigious honor."
The Thompson's Station Middle Jazz Band also performed at the conference. Chris Colalillo is the director.
"I was very proud of the work we did as an ensemble this year," Colalillo said. "It was a big undertaking, but the students who performed showed such dedication to their craft and played with musical maturity past their years. I know the students and I won't forget this incredible experience."
The TMEA works to promote the advancement of high-quality music education for all. The Annual Music Education Conference takes place at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center each year in April.
