Middle School Entrepreneurs Make Their Final Pitch
- 2024
- December
Students from six WCS middle schools recently competed to find out which group has the best business idea.
The Middle School (MX) Pitch competition was held December 6 at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center (EIC). The Shark Tank-style event featured a panel of judges of seasoned entrepreneurs and two high school EIC students who are already running successful businesses.
The winner of this semester's competition was a team from Hillsboro School. They pitched an app called Melodex which aims to help students study by transforming their study materials and notes into catchy songs.
"I love listening to music, and it is so much easier to remember than studying your notes," said Hillsboro student Meadow Leavitt. "I thought we should combine the two and make music from our notes."
Unlike the EIC High School Pitch competition, the middle school teams did not compete for startup funds, but they did receive the coveted EIC MX competition trophy.
"I am so proud of the hard work these girls put in this semester," said Hillsboro teacher Jennifer Atema. "They developed a great app idea to help students and teachers, and I hope one day we can use it. They did a great job presenting and answering some challenging questions from the judges. I look forward to seeing what they will do in the future."
