WCS Forensics Students Kick Off Season

The high school forensics season is off to a great start in WCS.

Students from Ravenwood and Brentwood high schools competed at the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) tournament September 7. The competition consisted of several different categories, including informative speaking, humorous interpretation and public forum debates. The University of Kentucky hosted the tournament.

“We are so proud of our students who represented Ravenwood this past weekend,” said RHS forensics coach Brian Kaufman. “They worked so hard over the summer to build their skill level, and it definitely was shown in their performance. We are excited to see the whole team grow as we get ready for the regular season to start.”

Ravenwood High placed second with their overall competition points.

The students who placed in the top 10 of their categories are listed below:

Program Oral Interpretation

  • Second: Jirayu Paueskaon, Ravenwood High

Oral Interpretation

  • Second: Olivia Williams, Ravenwood High
  • Fourth: Kendal Kocian, Ravenwood High

Informative Speaking

  • Fourth: Srichi Dalai, Ravenwood High

Humorous Interpretation

  • Fifth: Gavin Brock, Ravenwood High

Extemporaneous Speaking

  • Sixth: Sri Adabala, Ravenwood High

Public Forum Division

  • Eighth: Parker Kasiewicz, Brentwood High

Several student teams also competed in the Public Forum Debate. Ravenwood High students Ashwin Balaje and Rohan Jaisinghani advanced to the octafinals; Brentwood High students Nelson Rose and Sarah Memon advanced to the triple octafinals; and Brentwood High students Parker Kasiewicz and Ashwath Nayagadurai advanced to the double octafinals. They competed against 151 teams.

The regular season begins September 21.
