Some of the district’s Transition II students are learning real-world job skills through the combined efforts of Hampton Inn and Suites, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) and Williamson County Schools.
WCS began working with Hampton Inn and Suites last year, giving several Transition II students the opportunity to work at the Cool Springs location. Those students rotated throughout the various departments in the hotel until they found a spot that fit.
“This program is a huge success here,” said Hampton Inn and Suites Cool Springs Director of Sales Christina Halen. “It’s been all about teaching the students different skills.”
During a recognition ceremony October 16, representatives from VR; Williamson County, Inc.; the University of Tennessee in Knoxville; the Tennessee Division of Rehabilitation Services; Hampton Inn and Suites; AJC Franklin; and WCS spoke about all the great things that have come from the program in the past year.
“The Hampton Inn catered to our students’ strengths but also challenged them on their weaknesses,” said WCS workplace coordinator Myles Thrash. “We don’t get that a lot, and that’s what makes this special. We look forward to partnering with them in the future.”
