Thanking District’s School Counselors

School counselors play a vital role in student lives. That’s why the district is recognizing their hard work during National School Counseling Week February 3-7.

School counselors help students in areas of academic achievements, college and career planning and social well-being. Williamson County Schools currently employs more than 100 school counselors across the district.

According to WCS Elementary Counseling Specialist Molly O’Neal, counselors are trained in child and adolescent development, learning strategies, self-management and social skills. They understand students and want to help them succeed. They support students through counseling programs that are integrated into all parts of students’ lives. In addition to their training, all counselors are certified educators with a master’s degree in school counseling.

Teachers and parents work in partnership with counselors to provide a healthy environment where students can realize their full potential and set goals for themselves.

“Today’s school counselors are important members of the education team,” said O’Neal. “They help ensure today’s students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.”
