Longview Elementary Students Practice Business Sense

Published October 8, 2019

Second grade students at Longview Elementary are improving their marketing skills by running their own businesses during Business Day.

After learning the differences between goods and services, students had the chance to get a first-hand look into supply and demand. They created their own products, priced them and sold them to their fellow students.

“It was nice for our second graders to see the relevance of our recent social studies lessons,” said LVES teacher Catherine Hazlerig. “Within a few minutes of their business being open, one group quickly realized they should lower the price of their services due to supply and demand.”

By creating and running their own businesses for the day, teachers say students were able to learn valuable life lessons.

“It is so great to see them create items and services that their peers are excited to buy,” said LVES teacher Kira Watkins. “We will continue to have stories of Business Day for many weeks to come.”
