Keeping Student Drivers Safe with Checkpoints Program

Williamson County Schools will continue the Checkpoints program into the 2019-20 school year. Students need to complete the program in order to receive a parking pass and be able to drive to their schools.

Checkpoints requires new student drivers of any age to participate in a class with their families. During these class sessions, students and their families will discuss safe-driving habits, set clear driving rules and privileges and create an agreement on losing or gaining those privileges. The sessions will last one to two hours and be taught by a Checkpoints-certified instructor at each high school. Both students and parents will take a test at the beginning and end of the class to evaluate what they’ve learned.

WCS adopted the Checkpoints program in 2017 to help teen drivers and their families manage the risks associated with the first year of driving.
