High School Students Visit Technology Companies

Students from five Williamson County high schools spent the day visiting various businesses during the district’s second Traveling Tech Day October 23.

Traveling Tech Day is an opportunity for WCS students enrolled in information technology courses to visit local companies. During their visits, students were able to see how the skills they’re learning in the classroom can help them in the workforce.

“The goal is long-term tech workforce development,” said WCS College, Career and Technical Education Strategic Partner Liaison Anna Lisa Roberts. “There is a tech talent shortage in Middle Tennessee, and because of that, companies decide it is worth their time and effort to invest in our students.”

Some of the businesses students visited include Tractor Supply, Co.; Franklin American Mortgage Company; Schneider Electric; MedHost; and more. The day was organized by the Nashville Technology Council and Williamson, Inc.

“Exposing students to the variety of careers within the tech realm and helping them develop relationships with local companies is really important when we look at developing talent here in Middle Tennessee,” Roberts said. “We hope students will decide to finish high school and either continue their education and come back to live and work or immediately enter the workforce here locally, equipped with the skills they learned in their courses at WCS.”
