ESL Educator Named Teacher of Year

Published November 5, 2019

English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher Jennifer Meyer is earning accolades for her skills in the classroom.

Meyer was named the Tennessee Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TNTESOL) Middle Tennessee Teacher of the Year. She was recognized November 2 at a conference in Gatlinburg.

The Teacher of the Year award is given based on quality instruction, leadership in the field and community leadership. Meyer teaches classes at both Edmondson Elementary and Sunset Middle schools.

“Receiving Teacher of the Year is an honor that most teachers never expect,” Meyer said. “We just do what we love and do not expect any more recognition than seeing the happy faces of our students and being able to witness their growth and success. This is a different kind of recognition that comes from having other educators validate your efforts and contributions to the profession.”
