Academic All-Star – Anshu Gangineni, Nolensville Elementary

Kind, loyal and respectful. Those are a few of the words teachers use to describe Nolensville Elementary fifth grader Anshu Gangineni who was recently selected as her school’s Academic All-Star for the 2019-20 school year.
“Anshu is the epitome of a hard worker,” said her teachers. “She gives 110 percent to everything she does and goes above and beyond the assignment requirements in all classes. Anshu is consistently on task and willing to help others without question. She truly embodies the definition of an Academic All-Star.”
Having attended Nolensville since kindergarten, Anshu says there are aspects of the school she will miss when she heads off to middle school next year.
“I’ve enjoyed playing with friends, talking to teachers and learning so much,” said Anshu, who praised the teachers for all the help they’ve given her through the years. “For example, in math, the teachers show me different models I can learn from, and in ELA, they teach me reading strategies.”
Anshu’s favorite subject is math, which she hopes will help her become either an engineer or a doctor when she grows up.
“I’m not sure which one I want to be yet,” said Anshu. “I like engineering because I like to use computers, but my grandfather told me I should be a doctor because I like to put everything under a stethoscope.”
When she’s not at school, Anshu enjoys playing basketball and video games.
“I play basketball for the Nolensville Youth Athletics (NYA),” said Anshu. “I started playing in kindergarten, and it’s a lot of fun.”
Although being named an Academic All-Star is exciting, Anshu knows the real pay-off for working hard in school will come later in life.
“School is important because it teaches me everything I need to know when I grow up.”
