Summer’s Cool at Kenrose Elementary

For some students, summer break is just another chance to learn.
English as a Second Language (ESL) students are spending their summer at the Kenrose Elementary Summer’s Cool ESL Camp. Throughout June, students are getting a head start on the material they will be learning in the fall.
“The goal is for them to get basic knowledge before the year begins,” said KES ESL teacher Anne Marie Peterson. “They catch on quickly; they come in motivated; and they’re fast learners.”
Open to rising first through ninth grade students, the camp accommodates the students no matter their English skills. This summer, the classes are focusing on science.
“It’s been fun,” Peterson said. “Because we’re doing science, there are a lot of hands-on activities to do. I have loved seeing them thinking through and trying everything.”
