Published April 23, 2019

It pays to be healthy. Several Williamson County schools will receive mini-grants for their participation in this year’s Walk Across Williamson Challenge.

Students were asked to track their activity during March and report it to their schools. The top four schools were awarded mini-grants that will be used to improve student health.

Lipscomb Elementary and Walnut Grove Elementary tied for first place, each with 100 percent student participation. Each school will receive $1,000.

Kenrose Elementary had a participation rate of 70 percent and will receive a $600 mini-grant. Chapman’s Retreat Elementary had a 55 percent student participation rate and will receive a $450 mini-grant.

The celebration event originally scheduled for April 14 was canceled due to weather and will now be held at Harlinsdale Farm Sunday, May 19. Packet pick-up and new registrations for the 5k and fun run will begin at 11:30 a.m. on race day. The opening ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.

The event and race are free to participate in and are open to the public.
