Deputy Superintendent and General Counsel Jason Golden has been named Interim Superintendent of Williamson County Schools.
The Williamson County Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Golden during a special called meeting May 6, 2019. The vote came after Board members agreed to accept Dr. Mike Looney’s resignation effective May 20, 2019. Looney has been named the Superintendent of Fulton County Schools in Georgia.
“Jason Golden has a proven track record in working with the Board, staff, elected officials and the greater Williamson County community,” said Board Chairman Gary Anderson. “Based on the unanimous vote, the Board feels confident that he will be an excellent link to a smooth transition for WCS moving forward. Jason is highly respected and has been an integral part of many WCS initiatives. He has worked diligently to keep WCS a progressive school district, and we are extremely pleased that he has agreed to accept the interim position.”
Golden began his work in WCS in April of 2006 serving as the district’s attorney. He was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in January of 2010 and promoted to his current role in July of 2012.
“I appreciate the Board’s support, and I look forward to serving in this new role and continuing to lead our excellent district,” said Golden. “The summer months are critical ones for school districts. We will continue working with the Williamson County Commission through the budget process. In addition, we are actively recruiting the best teachers, staff and administrators to join our team for the coming school year.”
Golden will begin his new role on May 21, 2019.
