Academic All-Star – Waylon Weaver, Heritage Elementary

Published March 26, 2019

Eleven-year-old Waylon Weaver has made a lot of friends in his time at Heritage Elementary School.

Teachers describe the fifth grader as a positive force who works to lift up everyone around him. Combine that with Waylon’s dedication to his school work, and it’s easy to see why he was named this year’s Academic All-Star for Heritage Elementary.

“Waylon looks for the good in every situation, and he always comes to class with a smile on his face,” said his teachers. “As a student, he works to make connections and foster relationships with his classmates and teachers. We loved watching Waylon grow over the years into such a strong, kind leader at HES.”

Waylon’s two favorite subjects are science and reading.

“I like science because it’s how we get to learn about the world,” said Waylon. “Reading is fun because you just get pulled into the books, and you can learn a lot.”

In his free time, Waylon likes to play the piano, draw and play video games with friends. He is also skilled in the art of origami.

“I go to this thing called Young Scholars, and we learned how to fold paper to make people and animals,” said Waylon. “I’ve made a dragon out of paper, and I can make people from video games like Fortnite and Minecraft.”

When he grows up, Waylon wants to become an inventor and travel the world. With so many positive attributes, teachers at HES say Waylon is sure to accomplish great things moving forward.

“Waylon is always looking for ways to help those around him,” said his teachers. “This year, Waylon was chosen as a peer mentor working to support the needs of other students at HES. He is a ray of sunshine each day, and we are so lucky to have him as a student leader at Heritage Elementary.”
