Academic All-Star – Shane Leeth, Hillsboro School (Elementary)

Published March 11, 2019

Ten-year-old Shane Leeth is a dedicated student who comes to school each day with a positive attitude and a desire to help others.

Teachers say those qualities made him their choice as Hillsboro School’s Academic All-Star award winner for grades K-5.

“Shane works hard at every task,” said HEMS Teacher Shannon Jones. “He is diligent and meticulous. Shane consistently strives to meet and exceed expectations. He is kind and will often help other students before he tends to his own work.”

He’s only been a student at Hillsboro for a year and a half, but Shane says it already feels like home.

“I like this school,” said Shane. “It has really nice teachers, and they help me when I get in hard struggles.”

Shane’s generous personality has also made him popular among his classmates.

“Sometimes I help my friends when they’re having a hard time,” said Shane, who says he does it because, “it’s the right thing to do.”

Shane’s favorite subject is math, and in his free time he likes to play baseball and football. When he grows up, he has two possible occupations in mind.

“I’ve always wanted to be a cowboy and a cop,” said Shane. “That’s because my papa was a cowboy and a cop.”

Being the honest student that he is, Shane didn’t mince words when asked why school is important to him.

“I don’t really know why,” said Shane. “I just go because I have to go.”
