Academic All-Star – Meredith Sparks, Brentwood High
Published April 30, 2019
Brentwood High School senior Meredith Sparks isn’t just a great scholar, she’s also a kind and generous individual who devotes much of her time to helping others.
That’s why teachers and administrators at Brentwood High chose her as this year’s Academic All-Star.
“Meredith approaches every task with a positive and optimistic attitude,” said BHS Principal Kevin Keidel. “She sees the best in everyone and always has a smile on her face. I am proud to call her our Academic All-Star.”
With only weeks until graduation, Meredith feels blessed to have attended Brentwood High all four years.
“This school is known for its rigorous coursework,” said Meredith. “But to me, the best thing about BHS is that the teachers are so caring. I moved here from another district where that wasn’t always the case. It’s nice to be at a school where the teachers truly care about their students.”
Many of Meredith’s most-prized memories from BHS are sure to include the friends she’s made through the Best Buddies program.
“Best Buddies has been my absolute favorite thing about high school,” said Meredith. “That’s how I met my best friend. I love spending time with the students in the program. They are all so honest and loving.”
Meredith is also an accomplished musician, having been named to All-State Band all four years.
“I play the flute,” said Meredith. “Music is an important part of my life, and it’s a great way for me to relax because it’s something that I love to do.”
After graduation, Meredith will attend Saint Louis University where she plans to double major in music and neuroscience. Although it may seem like a lot, Meredith says she’s excited to begin the next chapter in her life.
“I love to learn,” said Meredith, who seemed surprised to learn she had been named the school’s Academic All-Star. “There are so many students here who are better academically. When I got called to the office, I thought I was in trouble, so it turned out to be a great surprise.”
