Academic All-Star – Marco Ibrahim, Nolensville High

Nolensville High School is proud to name Marco Ibrahim as its Academic All-Star for the 2018-19 school year.
Teachers say Marco is a hard-working student whose commitment to academic excellence is unwavering.
“Marco is a bright and articulate young man,” said NHS English Teacher Dawn Poole. “He moved here with his family from Egypt six years ago, and English is his second language. Marco works hard to ensure his English grade stays at a high level, and I believe he has learned to appreciate reading for the intrinsic reward that it affords him.”
Although he enjoys English and says Poole is one of the best teachers he’s ever had, Marco’s two favorite subjects are math and physics.
“I like math because it comes easy to me,” said Marco. “Physics is when you connect all of that math together and it starts to make sense in the real world.”
Marco’s interest in physics may even lead to a career one day.
“I know I want to do something that’s physics-based,” said Marco. “That’s because I enjoy it so much and everything just kind of connects to it.”
When he’s not studying, Marco is involved in both band and wrestling.
“I started playing trumpet in sixth grade,” said Marco. “I joined the wrestling team last year. It’s the first sport I’ve ever done, and I like it. I plan to do it for the rest of high school.”
Although he admits that school isn’t always his favorite thing, Marco understands the importance of putting his education first.
“School is important because it helps you reach your goals,” said Marco. “I want to become an engineer and I need to learn physics, so I need to learn how to do stuff on paper before I can do it by hand. And that’s the sort of thing that school can really help you with.”
