Academic All-Star – Jud Woods, Edmondson Elementary

Published February 12, 2019

Edmondson Elementary fifth grader Jud Woods is a student who strives to set a good example for others.

He works hard, maintains a positive attitude and perseveres through his work, which is why teachers were quick to name him as Edmondson Elementary’s Academic All-Star for the 2018-19 school year.

“Jud is an Academic All-Star for many reasons, but his work ethic, stamina, and positive attitude are most notable,” said his teachers. “Every day, Jud comes to school with a smile on his face. He is a friend to anyone and everyone, and he is the first to volunteer to help if it’s needed.”

Jud’s experience at Edmondson began in kindergarten, and he says the two things he enjoys most about the school are his teachers and friends.

“I’ve enjoyed getting to know everyone and making so many friends,” said Jud. “The teacher are really good too. They’re encouraging, and they help us succeed.”

Jud’s favorite subject is social studies because he enjoys learning about historical events.

“We’ve learned about the Civil War, World War I and the Roaring 20’s,” said Jud. “Last year, we did the Revolutionary War and some other stuff. I just think it’s fun.”

Although he’s not sure what he wants to do when he grows up, Jud has proven he’s pretty good on camera.

“I do E-TV which is our school’s television program,” said Jud. “It’s pretty fun because you get to be on the smart board and watch yourself interview people.”

As he prepares for the transition to middle school, Jud says he’s committed to academic success.

“School is important to me,” said Jud. “Without doing all this work, I wouldn’t be able to make it to college and get a good scholarship.”

In the meantime, Jud says he takes pride in knowing his hard work has paid off in the form of this award.

“I’m just shaking and nervous right now,” said Jud. “But I’m just really thankful that all my teachers love me and care for me.”
