Academic All-Star – Brelyn Stevens, Sunset Middle
Published March 11, 2019
Teachers at Sunset Middle School say 14-year-old Brelyn Stevens exhibits a strong work ethic and a drive to succeed. That’s why they chose her as this year’s Academic All-Star.
“Not only is Brelyn a kind, creative and helpful student, but she approaches every challenge with a ‘no excuses’ attitude,” said her teachers. “She is organized and conscientious with her academics, and she always gives her best effort to meet teacher expectations. When Brelyn needs assistance, she reaches out for it appropriately, takes feedback maturely and adjusts her work accordingly.”
Brelyn and her family moved to Williamson County several years ago. Although she was nervous when she first came to Sunset Middle, Brelyn says the people here helped her feel at ease.
“It was different at first because I didn’t know anyone, and I had to meet lots of new people,” said Brelyn. “But I like the students in eighth grade because they are nice, and they don’t make fun of people.”
Although she’s still in middle school, Brelyn already has a part-time job helping young children with gymnastics. Speaking of jobs, Brelyn hopes her future career will lead her to the ocean.
“I want to be a marine biologist when I grow up,” said Brelyn. “I have loved sea animals for a really long time, and science is my favorite subject.”
As she finishes out her eighth-grade year and prepares for high school, Brelyn says she takes pride in knowing she was chosen for this prestigious award.
“It makes me feel happy,” said Brelyn. “I know I’m a hard worker, and winning this award makes me feel proud.”
