Academic All-Star – Beatriz Da Silva, Westwood Elementary
Published April 2, 2019
Fourth grader Beatriz Da Silva is making huge strides at Westwood Elementary.
After moving to the United States from Brazil in August, Beatriz has impressed both teachers and students as she makes the transition to her new home.
“Beatriz has embraced the Westwood culture while sharing her culture with us as well,” said Westwood Principal Jill Hunt. “We have learned so much from her. Beatriz perseveres academically despite the language barrier. Her friends love her sense of humor and love to be around her. We are proud to recognize Beatriz as one of the hardest working students at Westwood.”
At a school assembly March 15, Beatriz was surprised with the news she had been named Westwood’s Academic All-Star for the 2018-19 school year. Administrators selected her for the award based on her hard work and positive attitude.
“Although she did not know any English when she moved here, Beatriz has quickly picked up speaking the English language,” said Hunt. “Her teachers love the notes she writes thanking them for teaching her.”
As for Beatriz, she says she’s thrilled to be at a school where she’s surrounded by such caring people.
“I love my teachers and my friends,” said Beatriz. “Westwood is a really cool school.”
