Woodland Middle School librarian Lindsey Anderson makes visiting the library fun, and her work in the school is being recognized by the Tennessee Library Association (TLA).
Anderson was nominated by Westwood Elementary librarian Teresa Barnhill as the recipient of the 2018 Louise Meredith School Library Award. The award recognizes a school librarian who has made unique contributions to his or her program or community through work in the library.
“What makes Lindsey shine most is her heart, passion and compassion for her Woodland Middle community,” Barnhill’s nomination states. “Lindsey has created a school library where all students are included, engaged and empowered.”
In addition to her work at Woodland Middle, Anderson serves on the board of the Southeastern Young Adult Book Festival and as the advocacy chair for the Tennessee Association for School Librarians.
Anderson’s says her goal is to inspire her students and fellow librarians to get involved.
“I want to encourage librarians to be leaders and key players in the learning that takes place in their school communities,” Anderson said. “It is my passion to share the love of reading and inspire my students to connect with the power of books.”
For winning the award, Anderson received a plaque and a free one-year membership in the TLA.
“To be recognized by the TLA is an honor, and to find out I was nominated by a colleague makes receiving this award even more special,” Anderson said.
