Williamson County Offers Support to Texas School Children

Williamson County is doing its part to help school children who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey.

As part of the “Tennessee Volunteers for Texas” campaign, the Williamson County Government, Williamson County Schools, Franklin Special School District and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office are joining together to assist children in the Houston area.

“Many people have called in to our county asking what Williamson County folks can do to help those in need,” said Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson. “This was our way of saying, ‘let us help.'”

The campaign aims to specifically collect the following newly purchased school supplies:

  • backpacks
  • No. 2 pencils
  • crayons
  • ruled paper
  • glue
  • scissors

WCS also plans to send two surplus school buses to Houston to help transport students when schools reopen.

“We’ll do everything in our power,” said WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “This is a way for us all to come together as a community and help our Texan neighbors.”

To donate new school supplies, drop them off at the AG Center right off of Exit 61 on Interstate 65. To donate money, visit the Williamson Gives page on the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee website.

“We’re calling on our community,” said FSSD Superintendent Dr. David Snowden. “It’s a fantastic community. We know the response will be significant.”

Anderson challenged the other Williamson County municipalities to get involved in the support effort.

“As we have always tried to work together in our community to make it a better place, I challenge each of these mayors and city managers to do what they can in their municipalities to meet our goal,” Anderson said.

 

Donation dates and times are as follows:

8 a.m. – 4 p.m., September 2;

1 p.m. – 5 p.m., September 3; and,

8 a.m. – 4 p.m., September 4 thru September 9.
