Published May 17, 2018

Several Williamson County schools and students deserve a standing ovation after their success at the 2018 Nashville High School Musical Theatre Awards on May 12.

The awards, also known as the Spotlight Awards, began in 2013 as a way to unite the high school musical theatre programs of Tennessee with an opportunity to attend workshops and an award ceremony. The ceremony was held at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Andrew Jackson Hall.

Independence High School’s Legally Blonde production won not only Best Music Direction but Best Choreography as well.

Franklin High School had two individual winners. Cassidy Alexander tied for Standout Female Dancer, and Kaitlyn Sumner won Standout Ensemble Actress. Brentwood High’s Will Ryan won Outstanding Dramatic Actor.
