WCS Celebrates 2018 National Merit Semifinalists
Published September 13, 2017
Forty-two Williamson County students are among the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the nation’s 16,000 semifinalists September 13. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“We have many ways to gauge the academic prowess of our students,” said WCS Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools Dr. Charles Farmer. “Today’s announcement indicates that 42 of our students have further positioned themselves to receive financial support as they pursue their post-secondary education. We are keenly proud of these students and those roughly 1,200 who made the effort to take the test.”
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and his or her high school must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which information is provided about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and any honors and awards he or she received.
In February, any Semifinalist who have advanced to be National Merit Scholarship Finalist will be notified of the designation. The Merit Scholarship winners will then be chosen from the Finalists.
