Fifth-grade students at Walnut Grove Elementary put their athletic prowess to the test by celebrating the opening of the 2018 Winter Olympics.
The six classes chose countries to represent through the competition based on countries they had been studying. The student representatives of Croatia, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Germany and Colombia made their way to the gym Friday afternoon and were greeted with an obstacle course of cones.
Students competed in their own versions of hockey, luge, downhill skiing, bobsledding, snow-walking and even speed-skating as they worked to gather points for their countries.
At the end of the competition, Brazil, led by WGES teacher Dwayne Hastings, came out on top.
