Students Show Off Skills at Competition

Three Williamson County high school students proved they really did have the skills when they placed in the Tennessee SkillsUSA State Competition.

SkillsUSA is an organization open to middle school, high school and college students planning to enter trade, technical or skilled service occupations.

The Tennessee State Leadership and Skills Conference took place in Chattanooga on March 18-21.

Two Centennial High students placed in their categories: Lucy Britto placed first in Related Technical Math and Tristan Dickens placed third in Technical Drafting.

“Tristan is very focused on everything that he does and accomplishes,” said Centennial High College, Career and Technical Education Department Chair Tim Sawyer. “Lucy is a brilliant young woman with an unlimited future. I greatly appreciated both Tristan and Lucy volunteering to compete in this year’s competitions. This is the third time we have won the state in the math area and the eighth time we have placed in the technical drawings in the state competitions.”

Independence High’s Chloe Copps placed first in Photography.

“Chloe is such a talented photographer and a great student,” said Independence High Digital Arts and Design teacher Stephanie Prewitt. “This is such a high honor for her to be receiving after an intense two-day competition. The fact that she is only a junior makes it even better.”
