Rumor Mill – October 20, 2017

Published October 20, 2017

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.

If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of InFocus. Below are some of the questions we have received since our last issue.

My son tells me there are students in his fourth grade class who have smart watches and use them to record teachers and make phone calls during the school day. Is this allowed?

Although there are no rules that would prohibit students from wearing smart watch, they are considered personal devices. The Acceptable Use and Internet Safety Agreement that is signed by each parent and/or student states the following, “Students may not use personal devices to record, transmit or post photographic images, audio or video of any person during school activities or on district transportation unless permission is obtained from an authorized WCS employee. Students may only use personal devices to access files or internet sites relevant to the classroom curriculum. Students must comply with a teacher’s directions regarding use of personal devices.”

Students who are found to be violating the Acceptable Use Agreement will be disciplined and their BYOT privileges will be revoked.
