Is it true that the Presidents Day holiday will not be recognized in the 2017-2018 school year? If true can you explain why?
Williamson County Schools will be in session February 19, 2018, which is Presidents’ Day. The district’s calendar committee begins the process of creating the calendar in September. It is then vetted throughout the fall semester and generally approved by the Board of Education in January. There are many factors that are required by the State in TN Code § 49-6-3004 to determine the days students are in school, making it next to impossible to close schools for every State and Federal holiday and still meet our obligation of having 177 school days in our calendar without starting earlier in August or going later into May.
