Referendum to Fund School Construction Passes

The Williamson County Commission has a new tool to help fund school construction.

On February 6, taxpayers voted in favor of approving a 0.5 percent sales tax increase. When the final votes were tallied, the tax hike passed by a margin of 8,155 to 4,183.

“I’d like to offer my most sincere thank you to Williamson County taxpayers,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “The sales tax passed with a 66 percent yes vote. Thank you for staying informed and engaged. We will move forward with school construction plans to help manage our growth.”

The tax increase, which will take effect in about 30 to 60 days once it has been ratified by the state, is projected to raise between $60-70 million over three years to help pay for school construction.
