Ravenwood Girls’ Cross-County Wins State Championship

Published November 7, 2017

The Ravenwood High School girls’ cross-country team is back on top of the winner’s podium again this year.

After competing in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletics Association tournament on November 4, the team walked away with the title of State Champions.

Despite losing some of their runners from last year’s state championship team and being behind two teams who were pre-race favorites, the girls rose to the occasion and ran their way to first place.

“I told the girls I thought we had as good a chance as anyone to win state,” said head coach Peter Mueller. “They believed me, and, more importantly, they believed in each other.”

Runners Annika Sleenhof, Jamie Blaylock and Alex Rosen finished within the top 15 runners and earned All-State honors. With the team’s combined effort, they ended the tournament with a score of 102, a full 30 points ahead of the second-place team.

“There isn’t much of an off-season to running,” Mueller said. “Our kids spend a lot of time together and really become a family. It is humbling to be their coach and an experience I cherish.”
