Page High Student Writes Electrifying Essay

Electricity and short stories come together during the annual Washington Youth Tour Creative Writing contest. Each year, high school juniors are given an idea and the task to create a short story. The prize?

An all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C.

Page High School student Ciaran Francis is one of 15 students from the Middle Tennessee Electric service area to be Washington-bound. The idea given to the students was Electric Cooperatives: Going Beyond the Wires. His story, that was to be no more than 900 words, spun a tale of two Tennesseeans finding common ground despite being from different generations.

On June 8-14, Ciaran will have the opportunity to join students from across the nation in the capital to tour iconic landmarks like Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Institution and Monticello.

“Ciaran’s talents with fictional prose are obvious,” said Page High English teacher Eve Palmer. “He’s a gifted writer and exemplary AP English student.”
