New PSA Takes Aim at Bullying

Every 1 Counts! That’s the theme behind this year’s BE NICE message and the driving force behind two new Public Service Announcements (PSA’s) aimed at encouraging students to treat others with respect and kindness.

The idea for the video project grew out of a conversation district leaders had with Nolensville High School freshman Ali Shoulders who was searching for a way to tell the story of her struggles with anxiety and depression.

In May, the district enlisted the help of several BE NICE student ambassadors to tape the first of two PSA’s which is designed to illustrate the powerful effect words can have on others.

“October is Bullying Prevention Month,” said WCS Counseling Specialist Becky Mitchell. “It’s a good time to be aware of our actions and words and how they not only affect others but how they mold who we are. If we all practice kindness and empathy, it will become habit. That’s why we encourage students to ask themselves what kind of person they want to be and how they want others to think of them.”

As the district continues its fight against bullying, WCS students or parents who have been bullied or witnessed bullying should immediately report such incidents to the school principal.
