Making Friends at Page High

Making friends can sometimes be one of the hardest parts of starting high school. After experiencing that for themselves, Page High School juniors Abby Kelly and Meredith Dunn have a solution.

The two students created the Friends 4 Friends club which invites students who may be having trouble making friends to talk and spend time with fellow students in the same boat.

“I remember seeing something on television about this student at a California high school who created a club to help students at his school who sat alone at lunch,” said Abby. “I’ve experienced sitting alone at lunch and I knew how it felt, so I wanted to do something like that here.”

Meredith and Abby have partnered with the Page High Counseling Services to be make the club a place that promotes the family aspect of the school.

“Our principal has always made it a point when we meet at the beginning of the year that Page is a family and we’re all really connected,” said Meredith. “We just wanted to make this club an extension of that idea.”

The club is still in its beginning stages, but Abby and Meredith are hopeful more and more people will be interested as the year continues. Abby’s goal is to have activities and meet-ups outside of school, whether it be bowling, a bonfire or a simple meet and greet.

“Even if you’re shy about categorizing yourself that way, it’s a good place to start,” said Meredith. “You can go find your own path in Page and find what’s right for you.”
