Independence High Artists Earn Silver Medals

Independence High juniors Isabel Fitzhugh and Madison Gabay can now say they are nationally-recognized artists after being awarded Silver Medals in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards national competition.

Isabel received a medal for her work, Can You Handle the Truth? in the Editorial Cartoon category. Madison’s work, The Real Me, also received a medal in the Drawing/Illustration category.

Both students received Gold Keys in the regional level of competition. They will be recognized at the national ceremony in New York’s Carnegie Hall with all the national medalists.

“To my knowledge, this is the first time we have received a Scholastic Art Award at the national level,” said Independence High art teacher Andrea Howard. “Only eight artists were awarded national medals from our regional category, and we have two of them at Indy!”
