Hillsboro School Welcomes Loved Ones

Published September 14, 2017

Hillsboro School’s annual Lunch with a Loved One is one of the school’s most popular traditions.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a parent, grandparent or family friend, everyone is invited to join their favorite Hillsboro student at lunch.

“It’s an opportunity for parents to come and eat with their kids, get to be part of their day and spend some quality time with them,” said HEMS Assistant Principal Ryan Lowry.

HEMS counselor Mia Monroe was there not as an employee watching over the students but as a mother of two Hillsboro students.

“Today’s super cool because it gives all the families an opportunity to come in and have lunch with the students,” said Monroe. “It’s not necessarily geared toward the mom or the dad, it’s anyone. It’s lunch with a loved one.”

This year, the lunch happened on September 13, which was also smack in the middle of Homecoming Week. Monroe’s son, fourth grader Jay Monroe, was enjoying all aspects of the day.

“The adults dress up like the students, and the students dress up as the teachers,” Jay said. “And I’m excited about the lunch.”
