High School Students Outperform State on End of Course Exams

Results from the TNReady End of Course exams (EOC) show that WCS high school students are outperforming their peers around the state.

The EOC exams are a part of the Every Student Succeeds Act, a replacement to the No Child Left Behind Act to measure the growth of a student throughout the year.

WCS students participated in nine EOC exams: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, English I, English II, English III, Bio I, Chemistry I and U.S. History. On each exam, the percentage of WCS students who scored on-track was more than 20 percent higher than the state average.

“As a whole, our students and school district are doing remarkably well,” said Looney. “We continue to remain very far ahead.”

While students continue to score well on the TNReady EOC exams, Looney stressed the importance of teaching the whole child by emphasizing arts and athletics as well as academics.

“These are really good results, and we’re really proud of our students and teachers,” Looney said. “But our kids are more than a test score.”
