Franklin High French Teacher Uses National Award as Inspiration

Published August 10, 2017

A recent honor is inspiring a Franklin High French teacher to take her class to the next level.

At the end of July, Betsy Taylor went to St. Louis to attend an American Association of Teachers in French (AATF) convention and receive the Dorothy Ludwig Excellence in Teaching Award.

She ended up leaving the city with more than just a certificate. The convention had many trips planned for attendees, including a trip to the Saint Louis Art Museum and a walking tour of Old Saint Louis. These trips showed Taylor a different side of the city.

“There is so much French history and heritage in Missouri that is still evident in many small towns,” Taylor said. “I really had no idea before attending the convention.”

The convention allowed Taylor to meet with other educators from around the country, and their shared dedication let them exchange ideas and teaching methods.

“It was very affirming to have others, who are also such dedicated teachers, recognize my commitment to building a quality French program at Franklin,” said Taylor. “I was overwhelmed with the honor of being recognized among a group of educators for whom I have so much respect.”

Between the rich history of St. Louis and the fresh ideas from her fellow educators, Taylor returned to Williamson County with new ways to teach her students.

“I was inspired, challenged and encouraged,” Taylor said “I have several new strategies that I would like to incorporate into my lessons this year.”
