Published January 25, 2018

For the first time in the history of the district, a WCS educator was among the presenters at the MidSouth Emmy Awards.

Franklin High School TV and Film Production Teacher Keri Thompson and her former student Jacob Ferguson were asked to present the awards for Graphic Arts, Lighting and Technical Achievement at the 32nd Annual MidSouth Regional Emmy Awards on January 20.

The two were invited after Franklin High School won two awards at the Second Annual National Student Production Awards. Ferguson won in the Arts and Entertainment/Cultural Affairs category for his promotional video for the musical Annie. The class’s film, Supertramp, won in the Long Form – Fiction category.

Thompson says being able to attend last week’s MidSouth Emmy Awards was just another amazing experience in what has already been an incredible year.

“This past year has been full of so many fabulous achievements,” said Thompson. “I’m fortunate to have a great group of talented students who never cease to amaze me. Not only was our trip to the MidSouth Emmy Awards a great learning experience for Jacob, but I hope it also helps to inspire my students to take their work to the next level.”
