District Continues Fight against Distracted Driving

Williamson County Schools is continuing its effort to curb distracted driving this school year.

In addition to the Checkpoints Program, which encourages teens to drive safely, the School Resource Officer (SRO) from each high school participated in a Public Service Announcement (PSA) reminding their students to eliminate distractions while driving.

On August 23, representatives from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and WCS met with members of the press to introduce the PSAs and talk about how the district is addressing distracted driving.

The media heard from WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney and Sheriff Jeff Long before watching a preview of the PSAs.

“We all are in this common effort to increase safety in our young drivers,” said Looney. “We care about our school family. I hope that this message that is being delivered to our schools is received well. I very much hope that the parents we serve as well as the students we serve will take this effort to heart.”

The high schools across the county will show their officer’s PSA to the students in the upcoming weeks.
