Teaching a foreign language can be hard, but Centennial High’s German teacher Kurstin Bush makes every effort to help her students succeed.
Her efforts are being recognized, because the Tennessee Foreign Language Teacher Association (TFLTA) named her the Teacher of the Year.
“To be recognized by one’s peers is an amazing feeling,” said Bush. “They are the ones who know best what it takes to do this job.”
Bush received her plaque at the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) conference held in Nashville. The convention ran from November 17-19.
“I have come away with so many new ideas and felt really supported,” she said. “Venues like the ACTFL conference really help us connect with other educators from our region and beyond.”
Receiving this award does two things for Bush. It serves not only as recognition of her hard work, but also as motivation.
“It can be hard to find the energy every day,” Bush said. “Being Teacher of the Year makes you feel like the effort was worthwhile. I think any positive recognition always serves to keep us motivated to live up to the award."
